Homeless World Cup Foundation

We’re embarking on another exciting project for 2022…

Homeless World Cup Foundation
“Using football to support and inspire, the Homeless World Cup is on a mission to change perceptions and attitudes towards people experiencing homelessness.”

The Homeless World Cup was established in Scotland in 2003 and since then has helped over 1.2 million people across the globe to change their lives. Using football to support and inspire, the Homeless World Cup and its network of Street Football Partners is on a mission to change perceptions and attitudes towards people experiencing homelessness in all its forms.

There’s an unusual deadline in this project for us, in that this year Netflix are releasing a film about the Homeless World Cup - not something we have to contend with on many of our branding projects, but we could get used to it. ’The Beautiful Game’ will star Bill Nighy and Michael Ward, is directed by ‘Me Before You’ director Thea Sharrock and was written by the author behind the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

We're excited as well to add that at the time of writing, it's just been announced that after two years of cancelled tournaments, the 2022 Homeless World Cup will be held in September in New York!

"Everyone at the foundation, our global Street Football Partners and our loyal supported have deeply missed our annual tournament, so we are delighted, excited and encouraged to be in a position to announce that the HWCF and partners in New York are in advanced discussions to host the Homeless World Cup in 2022." – Mel Young, HWCF President and co-founder.

Homeless World Cup

Tangent has done a lot of work in the charity sector and in particular, with homelessness charities. We all live and work in and around Glasgow - we all see homelessness in various forms every day. Previously we’ve worked with the Glasgow Alliance to End Homelessness, including their recent winter campaign ‘Get Help Glasgow’, the International Network of Street Papers, and on the upcoming Ypeople rebrand, which is a charity also focused on, amongst other things, supporting people out of homelessness.

It’s a good day when we can balance excitement over football in general, working on a Netflix adjacent project, and doing civic work that’s close to our heart. This project is ticking a lot of boxes. Stay tuned for updates.
