March 2021

A year in! We’re all now officially a year in to this pandemic and the brave new world that came along with it! How many companies / studios / regular people are writing blog posts about how it’s a year into the pandemic and what’s changed and all that? Loads probably. You can make it through one more!

We reckon it’s worth celebrating that we’ve managed to make it through the first year of Covid-19; without leaving it longer than 6 days without speaking to each other, even when some of us were furloughed; without giving up hope we’ll be back in our beloved studio space before too long. And we stayed busy!

March 2021
“This is our twelfth annual campaign for the festival, which for 2021 will be a hybrid of online and in-person events.”

We began the official kick off of our work with the Edinburgh Book Festival this month! This will be our twelfth year designing the annual campaign for the festival, which this year will be a hybrid of online and in-person events in a brand new location at Edinburgh College of Art. You can read more about previous festival campaigns here, and more about last year’s digital only event here. I for one am very excited about continued digital events, as last year a Saturday afternoon in front of my computer introduced me to Samantha Irby and her blog Bitches Gotta Eat, which would be a life changing moment for anyone.

We won work with several brilliant new clients this month! We will be working on a new brand identity for Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, which is a company where innovation results in action and real-world impact. Their influence can be felt in all aspects of the built environment, from funding housing schemes that use renewable energy, to developing offsite construction methods suitable for the quickly evolving post-Covid landscape.

You can read a little more about the project here. We’re looking forward to working with them to develop their brand – keep an eye out for updates coming soon!

We’ve also been appointed to work on a brand with Sustainable Glasgow, so keep an eye out for us sharing visuals on that! In the meantime, you can visit the People Make Glasgow Greener website that we worked on, which went live this month. Also going live this month was the website for Gravyy, for which we completed the brand identity earlier this year. You can read about our work with Gravyy here.

Graeme-Birthday-2021
This makes sense if you know Graeme's dog and/or shoes

Joss-Birthday-2021
[insert football reference here] Happy birthday Juice!

In personal Tangent news, we all got together (via zoom) for a game of Werewolf this month. Everyone died, we were really bad at it (but it was fun!). We also had a couple of birthdays: Graeme and Joss both celebrated their second lockdown birthdays this month! Could they be the last lockdown birthdays for the studio? Probably not, we’ve got another birthday in May. But fingers crossed.

We all also celebrated Mothers Day, International Women’s Day, attended the first International Assembly event, held a critique session for some students at Gray’s School of Art, debated the moon landing and (some of us) celebrated Rangers doing something really impressive. (The rest of us weren’t angry about Rangers doing something impressive, we just didn’t care.)

Now as we get into the swing of April, we’ll be working on a few more top secret pitches, some new work for The Remade Network, several new products for Eden Mill (including a limited edition gin made in partnership with Hibs FC, celebrating Match Day Spirit!), and inching towards the finish line of our work on the World Expo in Dubai. It will truly be a wonderful day when we can finally share what we’ve been working on for that event.

Have a cracking April. Hope it’s better than April 2020.
