April 2024

A good month to pack away the winter coat and celebrate the earth in all her springy glory.

With good weather days finally outnumbering bad weather ones, it’s been a largely sunny and productive month in our little Glasgow studio. We even managed another trip back to Perth Museum with the whole team this time, including bespoke type designer and friend of the studio Leo Philp, who crafted Perth’s iconic typeface, which we have captured at its best in the form of shiny toilet signage. It was really brilliant to walk around the place after seeing it only in mockups and photos for so long - to be tempted by the ‘do not touch’ sign on the 3,000 year old logboat and to be ushered into the heart of the museum for the unexpectedly affecting visual story of the Stone of Destiny.

Not surprising in the least was how much we enjoyed the Unicorn exhibit. From the strange beasts depicted on ancient tapestries through to the pink and fluffy unicorns of today, ending in the magnificent Trojan unicorn which towers over the rest of the museum. It was quite the experience. We’ll be back!

“The Turner Prize closed its doors this month, with the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne welcoming 130,000 visitors during its six month run.”

April also saw us working on a series of recruitment and B2B promotional videos for Solvd, part of the Transport UK Group, who we’ve been working with since we rebranded them in 2022. We’ll be able to share those soon! We’ve also been dusting off our formidable wayfinding skills, last seen just before the new year when we devised a new system for Formula E. Collaborating once again with our friends at TRIA, we’re developing a new wayfinding system for an upcoming global event in Vancouver – more on that soon. It's nice to add another wayfinding project to our growing collection that includes UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Expo 2020 Dubai and the Turner Prize.

Speaking of which, the Turner Prize closed its doors this month, with the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne welcoming 130,000 visitors during its six month run. This was a really special project to be part of, and you can read about the work and our visits to the gallery here and here. We hope it’s not the last time we’ll be telling you about our involvement in the Turner Prize - but we’re delighted to be continuing to work with Towner on an ongoing basis, producing year-round marketing materials for them.

Also on our minds this month are long time clients Right There, who are celebrating their 200th year. Earlier this year we designed their commemorative brand mark, and we’re now helping them apply it across all digital outputs and physical events this year. As they look to the future of the charity and the further development of their theory of change now they’ve reached the milestone of 200 years, we’re also supporting them in the visualisation of their strategic development.

New to the studio is our work with Experian. We’ve been invited by the data analytics company to spend some studio time reimagining the ‘squircle’, the iconic and foundational element of their visual identity. We’ve really enjoyed the chance to flex our design muscles in collaboration with their design team; experimenting with 2D and 3D to evolve the look of one of the world’s largest companies.

We celebrated Earth Day in April, along with several notable clients and the rest of the world. Long time clients Levy began to publish their Sustainability Journal on the 22nd, to mark Earth Day, since adding a piece on Stop Food Waste Day on the 24th, with more to come on all things sustainable in future.

May brings with it continued work on several projects, news on some big pitches, a couple of bank holidays and the due date of a brand new studio baby! Many more updates to come.
