Eden Mill is a long-standing client of ours, and we were delighted to see them win another raft of accolades at the 2020 Scottish Gin Awards. Eden Mill has a long, successful track record at this event, generally winning in multiple categories each year - including for Gin of the Year in 2018 for their Original Gin.
“With a new carbon neutral distillery on the horizon, we’ve helped put sustainability at the forefront of the brand.”
This year was no different, with the team at Eden Mill scooping three prizes at the 2020 digital ceremony, getting the top spot for Product Development Team of the Year, Best Brand Experience, and – we are particularly pleased about this one – Excellence in Branding.
Eden Mill’s story started with a mission to revive the lost art of distilling and brewing in St Andrews, Scotland’s home of golf. They inhabit the site once used by the legendary Haig brothers, who opened a distillery there in 1810.
With a new carbon neutral distillery on the horizon, we’ve helped put sustainability at the forefront of the brand. We've helped determine a strategy for ingredients and botanics, designed a suite of new packaging solutions, developed a new bespoke glass bottle and increased the brand's focus on digital – accelerated dramatically by the current global pandemic.
A huge team effort, with a shared drive to do things that little bit different. We've enjoyed some incredible collaborations with the likes of Pedro Oyarbide, Ella Ginn, Susan Castillo, Scott Russell, Hilke MacIntyre, Mairi Clark and Croxons.
We’ve continued to develop a brand that, like the liquids themselves, pushes boundaries and challenges convention. Winning the Excellence in Branding award is a great recognition of the care we take to maintain a cohesive brand identity across a wide and varying range of products.
A particular highlight was the launch of the 2019 Single Malt whisky – the latest in our series of artist collaborations. We worked closely with Fife based artist Hilke MacIntyre, a specialist in linocutting: a traditional and highly skilled craft, derived from woodcutting. Her work aligns perfectly with Eden Mill’s traditional yet experimental principles. The artwork is inspired by the events of 2019, including the preparation work for the new distillery.
“Eden Mill is all about challenging the norms whilst having a healthy respect for tradition. We have been working with Tangent since early 2015 to develop a brand proposition for our core brand and full product portfolio. Tangent has brought energy, passion and flair as well as informed, thought out rationale. St Andrews is now at the heart of the brand, and its global recognition has allowed us to confidently start expanding the business globally.”
Paul Miller, Co-Founder
Despite these challenging times, Eden Mill continues to go from strength to strength. With several major projects and developments nearing completion, here’s to 2021 and the next phase of the brand journey. Perhaps co-founder Tony Kelly puts it best:
“Since the day we met the guys at Tangent they have listened to us and delivered exactly what we needed to help make the Eden Mill brand a success.”
