June 2024

This June the planet decided to try out a new season: winter, but with hayfever!

“In the same vein as the People Make Glasgow brand, our 850 brand is designed to be used liberally by the people of its city.”

But despite the chill outside, it was a flurry of activity in the studio, including welcoming Lewis back after he spent several weeks getting to know his brand new baby girl. Our work on the Glasgow 850 celebration brand was launched by the city council this month. This brand will be utilised across the city’s programme of events (and hopefully beyond) for the next year leading up to the 850th anniversary of the city’s founding. In the same vein as the People Make Glasgow brand, our 850 brand is designed to be used liberally by the people of its city - the iconic PMG pink (or ‘rubine red’ as it’s known in design circles) is prominent and immediately anchors the 850 branding to the city it celebrates. We’ll have more to tell about this brand as it begins to be used across the city, but we’re excited about its possibilities for endless customisation, and the opportunity it offers for humour, nostalgia, and most importantly, celebration.

We also launched our rebrand of Hardie Polymers this month: taking inspiration from the raw materials they source, we developed an agile system that flexes to suit. With a bold colour palette and logo that evokes the progress of polymer to product, we’re pleased with how this one turned out. You can see more at Hardie’s freshly branded website for now, and we’ll release a full case study in due course.

Our work on Solvd wrapped up last week, with their new site going live, including two new videos we created for them: one for clients and one for recruitment, each executed in-house from storyboard to direction to final edit. It’s been an interesting process, which we’ll talk more about in a future post, as more and more of our work is moving towards motion and film-creation. Recent examples include Unicorn for Perth Museum, user journey films for Right There, promotional content for Eden Mill and on-going work for Experian.

And last but not least, we were represented at the Scottish Design Awards this month by dream team Lizzy, Lewis and Dahl. Nominated in five categories, we were delighted to take home two gold awards, one for our work on the Art of St Andrews single malt, in the Packaging Category (the second award this project has won!), and another for Perth Museum in the Brand Identity - Civic category. Read more about the awards night here and here.
