Summer is officially upon us. Tangent’s looking forward to the next few months of upcoming projects, longstanding work winding down, and perhaps, finally, getting back into our beloved studio? Until then though, here’s what happened in June.
“Glasgow has ambitions to become the UK’s first carbon neutral city by 2030.”
We’ve been working on a project with a Glasgow sustainability initiative for the last few months, and we were delighted to see it launch in June. Sustainable Glasgow is a partnership formed by leading sustainable organisations from the commercial, academic and charity sectors, alongside local government. We were approached to design a brand identity and website for the initiative, positioning them as a leading force in the fight against climate change, with ambitions to become the UK’s first carbon neutral city by 2030 and a world leading centre for sustainable policy and innovation. We created a brand identity that emphasises the urgency to start acting now. Read more about this project here.
“We developed an identity that was modern and positive, but still felt realistic and to-the-point.”
We also wrote about our work with Glasgow’s homelessness initiative. Glasgow’s ‘Alliance to End Homelessness’ is the first of its kind in the UK. With an operating budget of £187 million over ten years, It’s an ambitious and innovative approach to partnership working. We have worked with the Alliance over the past year to deliver a brand identity for the new venture. The challenge in designing an identity for any form of homeless service is to strike a tone that acknowledges the gravity of the situation, but remains positive and optimistic enough to convince people that something can be done about it. We developed an identity that was modern and positive, but still felt realistic and to-the-point. You can read more about that project here.
“Our campaign for the 8th edition was, literally, fuelled by Oxygen.”
June also saw the return of a favourite event of Tangent’s to work on: the 8th edition of University of Glasgow’s Science Slam! This event is always highly entertaining whilst sneaking in a lot of information, and this year, our third year working on the branding for it, was no different, despite being an online only event. In previous years we’ve themed our branding around the atomic number relating to the event. Our campaign for the 8th edition was, literally, fuelled by Oxygen. A series of everyday objects explode in super slow motion. The creative feels cathartic and fun, a release of pent up energy – the return of Science Slam has felt like a long time coming. You can read about our work on this project here.
In other news, it is less than 100 days to go until Expo opens its doors to the world! We are almost finished our work on this monumental event, and we cannot wait to see how it’s all going to look when it’s done!
We also started a Euros sweepstakes (good luck to Joss and Andy, the only two left standing as I currently type) we selected a couple of brilliant DJCAD interns to work with us this summer, and we finally hired a new project manager who will be starting at the studio just as soon as we get back there - welcome Shauna!
Have a cracking July, people.
